it's similar, but pebble beds are designed to automatically cool down- as the temperature increases, the 'pebbles' of fuel move apart and the reaction moves away from criticality. This is designed specifically to get ridiculously hot but not for power production reasons.

WSU is infamous for its haloween shananigans and being a student I've seen a lot of them. Saw a super gay dude messing with a mormon. The best part was that there were people pretending to be mormons and there were real mormons so it made it really fun messing with them.
